Schlaraffia was founded in Prague in 1859 by German-speaking artists. Today there are over 260 lodges on 5 continents – and the language of the Sippung is always German. In Argentina, Brazil, the USA or Czechia, you will find Schlaraffen who communicate in German – naturally and with joy.

Outside the German-speaking world, Schlaraffia is one of the most enjoyable ways to practise, refresh or deepen your German. The language lives in songs, poems, playful speeches and centuries-old tradition – not in textbooks. Many members joined with basic German and found their way through friendship.
